Lord Stafford Visit

Date: 29th Sep 2026 Author: Vista

We were absolutely honoured to be visited by The Hon. Lord Stafford at Scouts.

The Scouts showcased some of the amazing skills they put into practise during the competition, including fires, tent building, cooking, knife and axe skills.

Lord Stafford was impressed with the skills and activities on show. Well done, Scouts.

Back in June, the Scouts of the 4th Stafford Scout Group, competed in the District Lord Stafford Cup Camping competition. An event that has run in various formats since the early 1920s.

Eight patrols from Scout Troops across Stafford District competed for the coveted trophy. This saw Scouts, 10.5- to 14-year-olds, camping independently, setting up patrol campsites, cooking their meals over open fires and using other traditional Scouting skills such as pioneering, knife and axe craft.

Our Scout Troop has won the last four competitions, holding the trophy for the last six years, and this year won both first and second place with the two teams that entered, a testament to their exceptional traditional skills, proactiveness and teamwork.

We were put in contact with Lord Stafford himself, who was not aware of the competition, but was keen to find out more and speak to the Scouts following their victories. He visited our Troop meeting on Friday evening, where the Scouts showcased some of the skills and activities they had undertaken during the competition last summer.

He was taken on a short tour of the activities on show by the winning Patrol Leaders, before speaking to the two winning teams and presenting the trophies.
