Scout’s Night Hike 2025
Last weekend, the Scout Troop took on the challenge of the night hike once again! We started our hike over The Roaches at 9 pm on Friday and walked via Lud’s Church through the night, arriving at Gradbach campsite at 2 am! All the Scouts did an excellent job, and all finished the route with much more energy than any of the leaders started with.
After a much-needed sleep, the Scouts were up and back at it on Saturday morning. They devoured a good breakfast of sausages, beans, black pudding and hashbrowns to start the day. For the morning activities, some of the Scouts had a go at making paracord bracelets, some made atl atl spears, and some helped make leather cases for our spoon knives. We then received an interesting letter from the Grand High Scout Council informing us that some amongst us are traitors! The traitors were selected, and a series of ‘murders’ were committed. For the rest of the camp, we are all on edge…

In the afternoon, the Scouts continued with some knife work. They have also had a chance to work on their fire starting and pioneering skills. For dinner, the Scouts and YLs made pie and mash with veg and gravy. For pudding… Vista’s famous sticky toffee pudding. However, during all of this, there were more ‘murders’ by our traitors! After dinner, Vista announced that YL Tictac and leader Katie had been killed! No one was safe that night…
On Sunday, some wide games to start the morning, but the traitors were still at large.
We paused camp at 11 o’clock to mark remembrance, observing 2 minutes silence and Scouts read the verses of Laurence Binyon’s poem, for the fallen.
After some fires and more ‘murders’ by the traitors, it was time to draw camp to a close and conclude the game with the final ’roundtable’ – the faithful triumphed!
A great weekend all round. The Scouts were all fantastic. Thanks to the leaders for organising.
