Scout’s Summer Camp 2026

What an amazing week in Scotland!

It has been a phenomenal experience with so many different activities, from Go Ape to dragon boating, cycling to canoeing, as well as all the usual traditional Scouting skills, bushcraft and random camp shenanigans. We all leave with memories for life.

All the Scouts have been truly fantastic. Each of them has risen to challenges through grit and resilience, proactively led or taken part in activities and demonstrated incredible skills. Each and every one of them should be proud of what they have achieved this week.

I’d like to thank my incredible leadership team – Jake, Adrian, Sam, Ellie, George, Lucy, Echo, Liv, Nathan & Luca. Their inspiration and dedication make these experiences possible and creates those memories. I could not ask for a more amazing team of people.

Massive thanks also to Stafford Railway Circle for their generous donation that partly funded Summer Camp, following the Scouts’ support at their model railway exhibition last September. Their funding allows us to provide a greater range of enriching experiences like these for our young people.

We had arrived and set up! Day 1 of summer camp is complete.
After a good journey up, tents were up, and the all-important camp t-shirts were given out ahead of burgers and hot dogs for tea.

Summer Camp Day 2. Starting the day off with bacon sandwiches ready for our bike ride, a brilliant day cycling through Callander and Loch Venacha, and heating lunch on trangias. All before an amazing evening meal of chicken curry and Eton mess.

Day 3. To start, a spot of breakfast, cereal, followed by pancakes, before our day at Go Ape commenced. The Scouts had an amazing time swinging through the trees and really pushed themselves with all the different obstacles so high up in the air! The day was finished off with our famous Dutch Oven Chicken with veggies and sauce.

Day 4. Kicking off with omelettes for breakfast, then, after a very wet start to the day, the sun came out, and the scouts were able to get onto the Loch for some paddling. enjoying playing water dodgeball and canoe/kayak races. Into the afternoon, and despite the rain, the Scouts still were outside doing traditional scouting based activities and working towards their Knife Axe and saw liences. The evening saw the return of dutch oven beef stew with dumplings and Yorkshire pudding, an absolute camp favourite! It only took 14 litres of water… but it makes it so so good!

Sadly the weather gods kept the rain on us into Day 5, so the Scouts enjoyed an impromptu visit to the swimming baths this morning followed by a lunch of tomato pasta with bacon and mixed veggies back at the campsite. Into the afternoon, the Scouts were doing some firefighting and bushcraft activities, learning how to make fires in the damp using cotton wool and kindling to get it started. Then into the evening, the Troop had the chance to go out on the bell boats (aka dragon boats!) they played lots of games as well as trying to move around the boat and not fall in! For tea, no trip to Scotyland would be complete with the traditional Haggis, Neeps and Tatties, which was skilfully caught by the leaders the day before.

A big breakfast to start day 6, we had eggy bread, bacon, sausage and beans then followed by some camp gymnastics. Then into the afternoon, the Scouts hiked up Ben A’an and would you look at the view! The sun gods came out to play again today as well. Then, As is tradition on the last night of summer camp, scouts had chippy tea! Followed by teaching the Scottish scouts we were sharing the camp with how to dance to Cotton Eye Joe and Footloose, finished up with roasting marshmallows and singing campfire songs.

Last morning on camp, day 7, started with the traditional wake up method – big pan and wooden spoon, followed by packing away all the tents and cleaning the camp in very good time. Scouts had lunch of pastries, fruit and left over cereal before having a camp review talking about their favourite activities and what they would like to do more of! We even had ice cream to finish the week!
