Scout’s Winter Camp 2025

Date: 15th Apr 2025 Author: Vista

Back in February, the older Scouts enjoyed a great weekend of greenfield and backwoods camping.

This was the pinnacle of Scouting skills and prowess, in constructing and sleeping in shelters, putting all matter in bushcraft skills into practice.
Huge well done to all the Scouts involved.

Thanks, as usual, to the leaders for giving up another weekend to make these fantastic opportunities possible.

Camp started with shelter building, ready to sleep the night, using proper, traditional bushcraft techniques. Then, a quick break for a spot of lunch and making the cheesecake ready for tea and bread for tomorrow. Great homemade food in the forest.

Once shelters were constructed it was time to start tea. Cooking in the Dutch oven a meal of roast chicken, veg and gravy. A good hearty meal to finish the first day.
Then, after tea, time for bed. Scouts putting their shelters into action. A spot of rain in the night, but nothing to test the Scout’s structures.

Day 2 on Winter Camp, started with cooking breakfast on fire and baking fresh homemade sourdough bread ready for lunch.

Then it was time to deconstruct the shelters and leave no trace. Some Scouts found an intriguing way of getting a rope up a tree.

That brought winter camp to an end. A great time greenfield and backwoods camping

Proper Scouting. Well done to the PLs and APLs for your efforts and demonstrating all those Scouting skills.
